Photo of the Month: a Modern Pterodactyl

I was so lucky recently to capture a photo of Hector the Heron. It was a rainy day in June and he was out there hustling on Spruce Lake, no doubt looking for his next meal.

I don’t resent Harry for eating all the fish in Spruce Lake. Nor do I hold his frog pogrom against him. Actually, I’m a little impressed this little pterodactyl wanna-be can empty my lake of fish with only his face-harpoon. I’ve never caught anything with my face except influenza, so he’s got undeniable skills.

When he can’t get fish or frogs a Great Blue will snack on baby ducks, mice, voles or whatever they can swallow whole. No wonder they can weight up to 8 lbs. These are big birds!
